چکیده
We apply modern methods in computational topology to the task of discovering and characterizing phase transitions. As illustrations, we our method four two-dimensional lattice spin models: Ising, square ice, XY, fully-frustrated XY models. In particular, use persistent homology, which computes births deaths individual topological features as a coarse-graining scale or sublevel threshold is increased, summarize multiscale high-point correlations configuration. employ vector representations this information called persistence images formulate perform statistical distinguishing phases. For models consider, simple logistic regression on these sufficient identify transition. Interpretable order parameters are then read from weights regression. This suffices magnetization, frustration, vortex-antivortex structure relevant for transitions also define "persistence" critical exponents study how they related those usually considered.

Quasilumps from First Order Phase Transitions
We investigated the bubble collisions during the first order phase transitions. Numerical results indicate that within the certain range of parameters the collision of two bubbles leads to formation of separate relatively long-lived quasilumps configurations filled with scalar field oscillating around the true vacuum state. Energy is perfectly localized, and density is slightly pulsating around...

summing the Boltzmann factor over all spin configurations {si}. The enumeration of all configurations cannot be done for d ≥ 3, and although possible in d = 2 is extremely hard there as well (a problem solved by Onsager). We will use an approximate solution technique known as mean field theory. Last term we solved the problem of noninteracting spins in a magnetic field described by the Hamilton...
متن کاملPersistent homology for the quantitative prediction of fullerene stability
Persistent homology is a relatively new tool often used for qualitative analysis of intrinsic topological features in images and data originated from scientific and engineering applications. In this article, we report novel quantitative predictions of the energy and stability of fullerene molecules, the very first attempt in using persistent homology in this context. The ground-state structures...
متن کاملFundamental Limits of Bayesian Inference: Order Parameters and Phase Transitions for Road Tracking
There is a growing interest in formulating vision problems in terms of Bayesian inference and, in particular, the maximimum a posteriori (MAP) estimator. This approach involves putting prior probability distributions, P (X), on the variables X to be inferred and a conditional distribution P (Y |X) for the measurements Y . For example, X could denote the position and configuration of a road in a...
متن کاملQuantum first order phase transitions
The scaling theory of critical phenomena has been successfully extended for classical first order transitions even though the correlation length does not diverge in these transitions. In this paper we apply the scaling ideas to quantum first order transitions. The usefulness of this approach is illustrated treating the problems of a superconductor coupled to a gauge field and of a biquadratic H...
